Faith Case: Investigating the Truth

Beginning Sunday, September 11th, kids in 1st through 5th grades will experience a brand new Sunday School, Faith Case: Investigating the Truth. This theme will turn your kids into investigators who join the bumbling, lollipop-eating Mr. Trench and capable, no-nonsense Commissioner in the search for Faith Facts. Along the journey, kids will discover what they believe and why. Parents, join us for the first investigation to see what its all about! 9:30 a.m.

Due to the Tropical Storm warning and declared State of Emergency for our area, we have canceled Services for tomorrow, including the Sunday School Picnic. Please join us on Wednesday, September 28th for our Royal Rangers and Girls Ministries Welcome Back Night.

RVCC Planetarium

Our Discovery and Adventure Rangers will be taking a field trip to RVCC's Planetarium tonight, as the Discovery Rangers are working on their astronomy badge.

Roller Skating!

This Sunday is our annual Roller Skating Party. It will be from 4 to 6 p.m. at Villa Roller Rink on Route 57 in Broadway. Admission is free. There is a small fee if you would like to rent in-line skates. We will provide snacks. Beverages are available for purchase. There will be a brief devotion mid-way. This is a great opportunity to bring your friends! There will also be a free-will offering for Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge, which helps missionaries worldwide. Skating is at your own risk. Baby Jesus, We Love You

What happens when kids understand that Jesus could have come to earth as a conquering king, but instead chose to become a baby, vulnerable and dependent? True worship! That's what our 2010 Children's Christmas Program, Baby Jesus, We Love You, is all about.

Don't miss this presentation, Sunday December 12th at 6 p.m., which will help us all to focus on the real meaning of Christmas, worshiping the Christ-Child!

Parents, please bring your children to our important practice this Sunday, December 5th, right after church. Also, please bring $2.00 per child for pizza. Practice will run until approx. 2 p.m. On the 12th, please have your children here at 5:30 for costuming, and if possible, please bring a plate of cookies to share after the program.

I Love Sunday School!

Parents, is this how you feel about Sunday School?

I have to admit, there have been a few Sundays when I'd have rather have that extra hour of sleep on a Sunday morning. Sunday School means getting up early on a day off from work, dragging your kids out of bed and cracking the whip to get everyone showered, dressed and fed before pushing them out the door and into the car. By the time you get to church you need a nap! Is it worth it?

I say "Yes!" Sunday School is a lot more than just another program or story hour, or just one more thing to add on to the kids' schedules.

For your consideration, here are some reasons to bring your kids (and yourself) to Sunday School, from Dick Gruber's book Focus on Children, "Sunday school provides boys and girls with the essential ingredients for proper Christian living. Some of these essentials include the following: Small group age-level fellowship, regular systematic study of Biblical doctrine, ministry training, and the building of good habits of church attendance" (p. 8).

Although the primary place of teaching should be the home, Sunday school allows people of all ages the opportunity to learn and fellowship with their peers. As children enter their teen years, friends become increasingly important relationships. Sunday School can be a place where strong Christian friendships are developed, and these friends can also learn to serve in ministry together through classroom service, projects and special events.

Sunday School attendance also allows children the opportunity for regular and systematic Bible study. I don't know about you, but to my shame I don't always have the regular family Bible-study time that I want to. Sunday school is an opportunity for parents to connect with kids about what they are learning. It is an opportunity to open up Biblical discussion. The curriculum that we use, Radiant Life, is set up so that children will have a full-Gospel study throughout their years in Sunday school. This regular study can help to form lasting habits of study and church attendance.

The Biblical basis for training children is plentiful:

Deuteronomy 4:9 "Only be careful, and watch yourselves closely so that you do not forget the things your eyes have seen or let them slip from your heart as long as you live. Teach them to your children and to their children after them."

Deuteronomy 6:6-7 "These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you lie down and when you get up."

Proverbs 22:6 "Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

Matthew 19:14 "Jesus said, 'Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.’

...and there are many more.

Why Sunday School? I say why not! It's worth the effort.

March Missions Madness A Success!

Thank you all who participated in March Missions Madness to raise money for BGMC (Boys and Girls Missionary Challenge). Through your searching out "Lost Change for Lost Souls," donating and purchasing items at the Bake Sale, and picking up those great "Not Ashamed" wristbands and bookmarks, we have together raised $746.00 for BGMC this month!
Thank you so much for your support! We collect BGMC Boxes and Barrels on the first Sunday of each month, so please take your box or barrel back home, and keep collecting those leftover pennies. Together, we are making a difference for Lost Souls all around the world!
